FAQ
Is Ingle free?
Section titled “Is Ingle free?”Yes. Ingle is open source under the AGPL-3.0, and self-hosting it is free. A hosted version is coming soon.
Does my data leave my house?
Section titled “Does my data leave my house?”Not when you self-host. Everything is stored on your own server. The only things Ingle fetches from the internet are the calendar addresses you add.
Does it need the internet?
Section titled “Does it need the internet?”Only for calendars. The board, chores, rewards, photos and locking all work on your home network alone.
Can I have more than one display?
Section titled “Can I have more than one display?”Yes. Make each one a household display in Admin › Devices. They all update live, and locking applies to all of them at once.
What stops the kids ticking off chores they haven’t done?
Section titled “What stops the kids ticking off chores they haven’t done?”Nothing, at first: it runs on the honour system, so points count straight away. A grown-up can Reverse a completion for 7 days, and the points come back off. For chores you want to check first, tick An adult checks it before points or money are given. See Grown-ups can put it right.
Can the kids get into admin?
Section titled “Can the kids get into admin?”Not without an adult’s PIN. Admin locks again after 2 idle minutes, and five wrong PINs lock that person out for five minutes. The household unlock code only unlocks the board, never admin.
I’ve forgotten my PIN or password.
Section titled “I’ve forgotten my PIN or password.”Another adult can set a new one on your page in Admin › People. If you can still sign in with your password, you can change your PIN there yourself, and the other way round. There’s no reset for an only adult who has lost both yet, so it’s worth giving a second adult a sign-in.
Does it work outside the UK?
Section titled “Does it work outside the UK?”Yes. The defaults are British (Europe/London, DD/MM/YYYY, weeks start on Monday, and £). You can change the timezone in Admin › Settings, and the date format, week start and currency on the server. See Configuration.
What do points and pocket money actually do?
Section titled “What do points and pocket money actually do?”They add up on each person’s balance, and get spent on rewards. Ingle doesn’t move any real money: pocket money is a tally, and paying it out is up to you.
Can I move Ingle to another server?
Section titled “Can I move Ingle to another server?”Yes. Take a backup, set Ingle up on the new server, and restore the backup there before you open it. Displays and sign-ins carry over as long as the address stays the same.
